I was driving down the highway when I happened to glance to the side and see a couple of farmers on their modern tractors talking over the fence. I thought this had some potential so I recomposed the scene using a couple of antique tractors that I saw at the Hamilton Antique Tractor Pull. For those of you who arent into Antique Tractors the Rivalry between the fans of John Deere (Green Tractor) and Farmall (Red Tractor) is sometimes quite intense. So if these two guys with their extreme differences of opinion can be friends, why can't those Muslims and Jews get along?

The Albany Ice Company is in Albany, Texas and has been in the same family since it was built in the 1920's. No Ice but a standing memorial to a time before home refrigerators when every town had an Ice Company! The Albany Ice Co. is on the Historic Bankhead Highway (first paved road across America!) which will be the theme of my 2015 Calendar. Texas has more miles of the Bankhead Highway than any other state and much of it is still drive able!

It's common to see old cars and trucks out in the field sitting where they last broke down. They will have it hauled off one of these days when there is nothing more important to do! This house is near Coleman, Texas!

This was inspired in the Big Thicket at sunrise between Livingston and Huntsville and the first thing to attract my attention was this Egret taking off. As he rose up he turned and flew straight into the sunrise and I knew it was going to be another great day!

I sat out in public and painted this painting from memory while I was showing my work at the big Antiques Fair at Round Top!

This title is the result of my annual contest to name one of my Paintings. I found this church somewhere between Lake Jackson and Columbus several years ago and it's been at the back of my mind as a Painting Subject for years. The road is from the Anchor X Ranch near Lampassas, Texas and I decided to add the Bluebonnets In anticipation of what was a great wildflower show this last spring!

Available for purchase:

This Painting was published as a limited edition of 500 signed and numbered prints in 2005! I owe this idea to a comment made by one of my Customers last year. She said You do Storms really well and you do Bluebonnetts really well so why don't you ever paint Bluebonnetts with a Storm approaching? I couldn't get the Idea out of my head so I finally succumbed and this is the result!

Available for purchase:

Christmas 1987. This Longhorn Steer belongs to us and that's our Ranch House and out buildings between his horns, it didn't snow last winter, but on the first day of April, after the Bluebonnets had come up, we had a snowstorm that left four inches of snow on the ground. Our first year in the country has been full of surprises, most of them delightful like the April snowstorm, and some like the morning our dog got sprayed by a Skunk, that were anything but delightful! Now that these experiences are behind us, even the unpleasant ones are fun to talk about!

PEN AND INK!

Armadillos are not very colorful so I placed this one in some Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brushes. Makes me wonder if these two flowers together might have been an inspiration for the colors of the Texas Flag. I have no trouble photographing Armadillos because they are almost blind and easy to get close to.

If you travel down enough country roads you will find one of these treasures. Time seems to stand still and the main event in the world is either Moon or 42. "You can get the goods you really need here but you'll have to go down the road to get the stuff you just want."

In 1839 Lots for the soon to be City of Austin were surveyed and laid out. It was under these trees that Sheriff Charles King of Bastrop, Auctioned 301 city lots for a total of $182,585, almost enough to pay for the government buildings to be constructed. These Trees are located in Downtown Austin near the corner of 4th and San Antonio Streets in what is now known as Republic Square.

This painting was inspired on my annual trip to El Paso to show my work at the El Paso International Museum of Art's "Kermezaar". I was honored to have this painting published as the Poster for the 2001 show. I always stop to watch the Sunrises and Sunsets in the Desert and I guess this Cowboy and his old truck represent me and my Motorhome.

Available for purchase:

My Latest Original "Back Off" This will be published on my 2014 Texas Wildlife Calendar I photographed these 2 Cougars at the Waco Zoo and one of them snarled at me as I was taking pictures. I'm glad I was outside their area. Cougars are making a strong comeback in Texas, I suspect it's because of the explosion in the Feral Hog population causing an abundance of easy prey.

This cliff is near Rock Springs on the way to the Devil's River State Natural Area and is typical of lots of places in the Hill Country. I was attracted to the patterns made by years of running water on the face of the cliff ans added this Longhorn Steer to lend a bit of realism so folks wouldn't think I was doing Abstract Art!

As I was sitting warming my engine early one morning before heading out for an Art Show, I watched as Martha came to the back door of our house where her cats gathered, awaiting their breakfast. Although Martha feeds her cats every morning, I had never seen her doing so from the outside and was struck by the picture quality and warmth of the scene. I pulled away to start my journey but the image stuck in my mind and I felt blessed to have someone so kind and caring to share my life with!

Available for purchase:

A hand made Christmas Gift that had taken untold hours of spare time for Martha Boutwell and her Mother. Left on the back porch to get some sun by her new owner!

What do Fredonia, String Prairie, Carbon, Smith's Prairie, Luckenbach, Red Rock, Zorn, McGregor, Stamford, Clyde and Carlton have in common? They are all places in Rural Texas and there's a little bit of all of them in this Painting. After roaming Texas backroads for several years looking for the perfect Country Store. I decided to create my own. I hope you can find what you are looking for, here at Hilltop-One Stop!

This Buffalo Bull was one of about 100 that live on a Ranch between Hamilton and Hico, Texas and I was privileged to be invited to take pictures of the herd! This guy really resembles some hard core Bikers that I have met!
